Weaving Dreams and Empowering Lives:HDFC Small Grants and ASSCOD Join Hands for Sustainable Livelihoods in Tamil Nadu

Introduction:

In a aim to create fostering sustainable development in the tribal community, HDFC Small Grants has partnered with ASSCOD (Association for Sustainable Community Development) through HDFC Privarthan to launch a project in the Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvannamali districts of Tamil Nadu. This initiative seeks to enhance the livelihood opportunities of tribal women by providing interest-free micro loans and offering skill training in tailoring and wire bag weaving.

Objectives of the Project:

The goal of this collaborative venture is to empower tribal women by not only improving their traditional livelihood activities, such as cow and goat rearing and wood cutting (limited to firewood) but also by equipping them with valuable skills in tailoring and wire bag weaving. The project aims to benefit 100 women with interest-free micro loans for enhanced livelihood opportunities and an additional 30 women with specialized skill development in these two crafts.

Scope of the Project:

Spanning over 20 villages in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Thiruvannamali districts, the project is designed to make a tangible impact on the lives of tribal women. By combining financial empowerment with skill development, it aspires to break the cycle of poverty and elevate communities.

Livelihood Opportunities:

Cow and Goat Rearing:
The project recognizes the importance of traditional livestock rearing and will provide interest-free micro loans to women engaged in cow and goat rearing. This financial boost aims to enhance the efficiency of their operations and increase income.
